Welcome to Climb of a Lifetime - the networking site for the mountaineering and climbing community!
The site will contain some of the latest news from the mountaineering world but it is really all about you! Discuss the latest expeditions, ask questions about gear, upload your training regimes or latest videos and pictures in the Forums and Gallery. You can even post for sale ads for that gear that is gathering dust in the back of your closet and create your own journal/blog to share with your friends.
This site was built to try and foster communication throughout the global mountaineering community so If you have any suggestions or contributions that you would like to share, then please contact us! We look forward to hearing from you.
Not even 24 hours into my first day of the trip and already things are going not to plan. Alaska Airlines cancelled my SFO flight as well as my SEA flight putting me in Anchorage at midnight instead of 3pm. That means I miss the shuttle to Talkeetna and won't meet the group until tomorrow mid day after gear check, etc. I'm still in Seattle so fingers crossed I actually make it to Anchorage tonight and most importantly my bags as well!
I hope to have daily updates of my trip here as well as at www.humanedgetech.com/expedition/jurries
Now I have to figure out how to pass the next 4 hours in Seattle airport.......
At 9:18am Tibetan time Thursday, the Olympic Torch finally reached the summit of Everest.
News quickly reached Base Camp in Nepal with jet planes circling the summit. Most climbers are getting ready now to complete their last acclimatisation rotation up to Camp 3 starting as early as tomorrow. Generally everyone is happy to be back climbing again and the communications ban should be lifted within the next couple of days as well.
Mike Brennan and some other climbers reported that the word in Everest South BC was that the Chinese were supposed to summit yesterday. Heavy snowstorms have hit the mountain over the weekend however and the Chinese are still in Base Camp themselves. This makes the end date of May 10th for mountain lockdown seem rather unlikely. Many teams have rightly gone all the way down to Namche in order to pass the time instead of wasting away at BC. One can only hope for more than one good weather window this season and for them to be spread apart by a couple of weeks....
It was the day for women mountaineers yesterday on Dhaulagiri I (8167m) with both Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Edurne Pasaban reaching the summit. Girl power!
Around lunchtime yesterday, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and David Gottler summited in cold weather. This marks the 11th 8000m peak for Gerlinde. Everest, K2 and Lhtose supposedly remain for her to summit in order to become the first woman to have reached the top of all 14.
